[The little pup is a pleasant distraction, but it can't keep Vash from the subject at hand forever. He's grateful when Pure vanilla opts to break the silence — at least Vash doesn't have to be the one to ruin the moment. He listens quietly as Pure Vanilla speaks and -

nearly chokes into his tea.]

You can't hunt?

[Through the haze of his memories, he recalls feeling a kinship between "himself" and "Vanilla." They'd shared a burden of duty, as they called it. But for all the differences in that world, Vash would have expected that there were no similarities to speak of in this one. He and Pure Vanilla were just as likely to be night and day to one another.

And yet...]

When I first changed, I did everything I could to resist. I fed piecemeal from humans, thinking it would sustain me. And for awhile it felt like it was working.

Until it wasn't.

[The concept of frenzying doesn't need to be explained. Vash lets the silence speak for itself as he takes another sip of his tea.]

Before here, I had promised I would never take another life. And for a long time — a real long time — I kept to it. Until here. Until that day.
