CHARACTER INFO
Name: Vash the Stampede
Canon: Trigun Stampede
Canon Point: post-episode 7
Age: ~150
Species: Plant
History: Here + Here
Personality:
✽ What is your character's main motivation? What drives them and keeps them going?
Vash’s main motivation is penance. He wants to be a good person and bring love and peace to the world. He holds a lot of blame over himself for what happened during the Big Fall, and thus wants to go forth and put things right. This continues to be his motivation even as the plot progresses, with Vash becoming determined to chase down the Jeneora Rock plants when he feels their abduction was caused by his own actions.
✽ What is their biggest regret? Why?
Vash deeply regrets choosing to explore the restricted area in which they found Tesla. Had he resisted Nai, or insisted that they not dig into this information, it might have kept Nai from choosing to destroy the fleet, thus taking Rem away from them. Everything that ever happened to both them, as well as No Man’s Land as a whole, is a result of their actions that day.
✽ What is their worst fear? Their greatest comfort?
Vash deeply fears a full-blown confrontation with Nai. More than anything, he doesn’t want to be put in a position where he has to fight or hurt his brother. He isn’t sure he’ll be able to do so, especially given how their fight at Jeneora Rock went.
His greatest comfort is the photo he carries with him. His deepest hope is that if he holds true to his ideals, he can convince Nai to lay down his arms and they can be a family again. He clings to that hope no matter how naive it is.
✽ Top three strengths?
-Vash’s idealism constantly pushes him to become a better person. He wants to save people or at least improve their circumstances. He’s wandered for the last 150 years trying to help sick children or ailing plants.
-His endless optimism allows him to keep going in tough situations. Most people would despair after being swallowed by a worm and watching their friends being picked off. Vash keeps going.
-Vash is incredibly hardy, both physically and mentally. He’s been beaten down and still managed to come out on top in the middle of a duel. Simultaneously, dude has been through literal, emotional hell and he’s still kicking.
✽ Top three weaknesses?
-In the same way that his idealism pushes Vash into being a good person, it can also blind him to the needs of others. HIs stubborn pushing of Wolfwood ended with him witnessing Livio’s apparent death. His insistence on not putting Monev the Gale down nearly got their whole group killed.
- In that same vein, his self-righteous nature puts him at odds with those he might have considered his friends. More often than not, Vash behaves as if his way is the only way. He’s inflexible to the point of pushing others away.
-Despite being a friendly guy, Vash is emotionally reserved. He doesn’t consider those traveling with him as friends, as he doesn’t want to get close to them. It’s incredibly rare for Vash to even call characters by their names.
✽ What was their last lie?
In his confrontation with Rollo (now known as Monev the Gale), Vash told him that he would not have to be alone again. This is something he feels was a lie, as Rollo was killed shortly after. Once again, he failed Rollo, and he deeply regrets not being able to save him.
Inventory: +One duffelbag/backpack, easily slung over a shoulder like a cool guy. Contained within is:
+A photo of Rem Saverem alongside Nai, and Vash when they were children.
+One gun, “Peacebringer.” Extremely old but very well-cared for. Eight rounds are loaded into the chamber. That’s it. Someone picked pizza and donuts over ammo.
Abilities:
+Excellent hand-to-hand combat training
+Skilled Marksman
+Very flexible (probably to a slightly inhuman level)
+Increased strength (dude literally shoved a whole space cannon off its trajectory. This was partially thanks to his now damaged arm, but also a little bit himself)
+Sped-up regeneration/healing
+Plant to Plant communication.
+Ability to drain energy from Plants. This prevents them from going into their Last Run.
+Ability to create gates to a “higher dimension.” Despite having this ability, he’s not yet mastered it and has no control. He’s also able to manipulate/reform any sort of energy that comes from this higher dimension
