[If the staff is making eye contact, he might just flinch away. Creepy, definitely creepy. It's probably slightly better than the lemons making eye contact with him, but only just barely. He'll just mind his business and let the staff do its thing.]
Sure! One of those uh, palate cleansers, yeah? All fancy and stuff!
[Three scoops of ice cream are plunked into a bowl and flanked by two spears of pickles. He repeats the process with a second bowl, then grabs two spoons. He brings it over to the table, setting one in front of Pure Vanilla and one in front of himself.]
I liked to experiment with food. And there were some things that people didn't like as much. Ice Cream was a bit of a commodity, but pickles? Not everyone loved those. So I could eat as many as I wanted without causing issues!
[Give him a moment to rearrange himself so his Staff can see the bowl in front of him, so he's not blindly tinking around. Once his bowl is in his field of view, he'll pick the spoon up. He can smell the dill but it doesn't smell that bad, honestly. It's certainly unique to him.]
Ah, are you from another world where sweets were in low supply?
[There are so many of those. Using his spoon, he carefully chops a little bit of pickle and scoops a little bit of icecream, then places it in his mouth.
And pauses.
Don't worry, that's not disgust on his face, but it is pure bewilderment.]
[Strange. He watches that careful arrangement of the staff, watches the eye as it shifts, and tucks it away within the back of his mind. It isn't that he hasn't noticed the fact that Pure Vanilla has failed to open his eyes since he first arrived. Rather, he's only just paired these two details together. Beyond a mental note, though, he says and does nothing.
He's seen many strange things in his days, odd powers and abilities that have manifested both in relation to him and beyond. He won't question someone's differences, especially not to their face.
In any case, he's more than distracted by the expression the man now wears. It isn't outright distaste, which he thinks is leagues better than most everyone else that's been shown this particular concoction. He nods a few times, before thinking to correct himself and speak aloud.]
Sweets and... most food, honestly. We had our ways of producing it, but we tried to be as self-sustaining as possible. Sometimes that meant going without the little luxuries. You know how it is! [Despite the subject at hand, Vash's voice remains chipper.]
[He will ask about Vash's world after his taste buds quit warring with each other. The question makes him tilt his head as he chews and swallows, his ears flicking lightly.]
I... am not sure!
[Yet he's going for another bit, a hand coming up to tuck some hair aside so he can stick the second spoonful in without getting some strands as well. It's a fascinating flavor profile. The ice cream is obviously sweet, creamy, cold. Yet the dill pickle is something he's never experienced before. It's... briny. Salty. A tartness that would perhaps border on too much for him, if not for the ice cream. When he swallows this one, he takes a moment to simple ponder it before smiling.]
I like it! The ice cream balances the pickle, the salt compliments the sweet, and the briny touch adds a little kick!
[He does like it, actually, quite telling the truth as he gleefully goes for another bite.]
[The fact that he goes for a second bite is a victory enough for Vash. He's beaming as he watches, own body practically wiggling with his excitement. It only grows when Pure Vanilla actually speaks his thoughts. The grin that splits across his face might have looked painful, if not for the fact that the mirth twinkles within his eyes.]
Right! They're so different, but they balance each other out!
[With his own curiosity satisfied, Vash digs into his own little Pickle Split, chewing with a close-lipped smile as he goes. At least he isn't making a mess.]
[Pure Vanilla will remain quiet for a few more bites, simply enjoying the company and the split. It's so unique, that he just wants to savor it for a moment. When he's about halfway done, he'll finally stop. His tongue is asking for a break, even though he's beaming.]
I do believe you would quite like a few of my worlds dishes! I would love to make you a Jelly Pizza someday, if I may? It will take a bit to gather the ingredients, or mayhap I can simply as Heimr to trade with me if he is able to!
[He stirs his ice cream a little, letting it melt some to turn it into a sort of pickle cream soup. Avoiding the pickle, he'll sip at the melted ice cream and vinegar, pondering whether that makes it better or not. No, it needs the snap of the pickle.]
[Vash can't help but be enamored by the genuine effort Pure Vanilla puts into swirling the concoction around. It was already evident that Vash wasn't just being humored, but this seems to outright cement that fact. He's touched by the indulgence, more than he cares to admit.]
Jelly pizza? That sounds awesome! What does it have on it? Is it like... fruit jelly? [He perks up even higher.] Or jellybeans?! Or both?
[The image in his head is a heinous one, and also somehow delicious in his eyes. We cannot control the Vash cravings here, unfortunately.]
[Oh. That enthusiasm is infectious. It makes his tail waggle, please ignore the sound of it whacking up against the chair in a random pattern. He has no doubt many would find the idea of a jelly pizza strange, but Vash seems fascinated by it.]
Yes! It has red and green jellybeans, malt balls, a cream cheese drizzle, on top of cheese!
[To be fair, the cheese is probably sweet as well but that definitely sounds like a strange combination. Probably no more strange than ice cream and dill pickle, however, that of which Pure Vanilla finishes happily. He's going to regret this later but is completely unaware of the fact.]
And thank you, my friend, I was unsure of what to expect with this, but it was delightful! I've never experienced a taste combination such as this!
[The longer Pure Vanilla talks, the wider Vash's eyes seem to go. They're practically dinner plates by the time he finishes. He can't help the way he licks his lips, nor the way he glances toward the kitchen as if he might find a Jelly Pizza waiting there.]
We have to have it.
[Despite his otherwise comical expression, Vash seems gravely serious in this moment. He resists the urge to grip Pure Vanilla's hands, but only barely. Mostly, though, he's trying to commit each ingredient to memory, so he knows what to spend his shells on in the future.]
But, uh. No need to thank me! Just consider that Jelly Pizza an IOU, whenever you're ready for it.
[Witches, he's adorable! The enthusiasm for the jelly pizza makes Pure Vanilla laugh, a delighted noise he can't help. He's only ever known Cookies to get this excited about sweets. Blondie Cookie, indeed!]
A date it is, then! As soon as I have the pizza in hand, I will make my way back over post-haste! Have you ever had root beer? A good drink would be excellent to pair with it as well! And speaking of, do you have a kettle?
[Now that his ice cream is finished, it's time for him to repay the favor and make Vash a sweet bit of tea. There's not much there, he scrounged up enough shells for a few flavors, but enough Vash can try one or two. He'll tap the small bundle with a smile.]
["A date?" That gives Vash pause. He knows Wolfwood isn't there, but still, he doesn't want to give the wrong idea. In the same vein, he can't be sure that Pure Vanilla really meant anything by it. It's a common enough phrase, right?
Maybe he could afford to pull the enthusiasm back just a little? Better that he not mislead his newfound friend.]
Eheh... Yeah. Sounds like a plan! [He chews on his lip for a second.] I can't say I've ever had root beer. And no kettle, I'm afraid. Sort of asked for the bare minimum when I got this place.
[Pizza and root beer it is then. Pure Vanilla makes a mental note to ask the Trader about both items. Hopefully a deal can be made. And he doesn't notice Vash's pause to his words, as he meant them innocently.
He hums softly about no kettle, but doesn't seem deterred, tapping his bowl lightly with his finger as he thinks.]
Understandable, when I requested my own place, it came with only places to sleep. Do you have a saucepan? If not, please do not fret, we can try the teas at a later time!
